Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has started an online refresher course on human rights and social inclusion. The Department of Political Science of JMI and UGC-HRDC came together to launch the two-week-long programme. As per the reports, the course is likely to continue until September 19, 2020.
Aspirants seeking to undertake the course must know that during the course, various issues related to human rights will be discussed at length. Multiple sessions will be conducted that will include topics such as new social movements, Dalit assertion and social inclusion, the conceptual framework of human rights and social justice, discourse on rights in India, social inclusion of LGBTQI, debates and dilemmas, citizenship and human rights, masculinity, women, violence and human rights, child rights, contemporary debates around sex workers, deconstructing gender tribal rights among many others.
During the course of the Human Rights and Social Inclusion programme, a special address on refugees, migrants and a special session on Mahatma Gandhi will be organised by Professor Georgia Dona of the University of East London , Dockland Campus. Various expert speakers from foreign universities, DU , Osmania University , JNU , JMI, Human Rights Organisations, NGOs, Police, NHRC and Legal fields are invited to deliver lectures during the session. The last three days of the two-week-long refresher course will include a presentation on different topics by vivid groups of participants.

Najma Akhtar, the Vice-Chancellor talked about the launch of the online course in Human Rights and Social Inclusion and said that she hopes that the course will not only expand the theoretical understanding but will also help in sensitising effectively. She believes that after attending the course, participants will be well equipped to impart knowledge to the interested students. Such courses have the potential of bringing social justice and equality in society.
