Jamia Millia Islamia or JMI has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Al-Mustafa International University, Iran on July 31, 2017. The purpose of this significant collaboration is to maintain long-term academic cooperation in the field of education, research and innovation. The MoU has been signed in the presence of VCs of both the varsities. The MoU will enable the varsities to improve research and teaching along with the restructuring of courses. Both the varsities will also focus on figuring of new methods of teaching and learning. The MoU will promote international understanding as two varsities undertake interdisciplinary studies.

Faculty and student exchange between Jamia Millia Islamia and Al-Mustafa International University will also be a part of this MoU. Both the varsities will take up joint research works in: -
- Humanities
- Culture
- Management
- Persian Language & Literature
- Mass Communication
- Islamic Studies
The MoU will also facilitate both the varsities to organise workshops, seminars and joint conferences. Similarly, the varsities will also share academic data, publications and intellectual property. The MoU will help the students to know about the unique cultures of India and Iran. Students will have a better understanding of the cultures of both the countries.

Earlier, Jamia Millia Islamia signed MoU with the following Iranian universities: -
- Allameh Tabataba’l University
- National Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology
- Payame Noor University
JMI also collaborated with Palestine universities for student and faculty exchange programme. Collaborations with international universities will boost up the rankings of Jamia Millia Islamia.
