Following the protests of the students, Jamia Milia Islamia University has rolled back its decision of fee hike across different courses on Monday, 6 February 2017. The university had increased the fees for different courses from the current academic year. The hike varied from INR 100 for the certificate course to INR 400 for the bachelor's as well as master's courses.

Saima Saeed, the deputy media coordinator of the University said that the increase in the fees was very nominal and the university has assured the students the hike will be rolled back for the current year. The students had very little reasons to protest.
Sahil Ahmed, a student, said that University cannot increase the fee so abruptly. Students have been demanding for the roll back of the fees as it will be a burden for the students hailing from the marginal backgrounds.
After the students protested against the fee hike, the University had constituted a six-member committee to examine the whole matter.
Students also demand that the offline application process for the examination should be restored back again. Ever since the online application form submission process has started the number of applicants has reduced marginally.

Importantly, the application process for the different courses in bachelor's and master's degree, diploma and certificate courses of the University began from 2 nd February and the application process will continue till 3 rd March 2017. Students have also been given an opportunity to edit their application form from March 5 to March 8. The University conducts entrance examinations for most of the courses.
