Jammu University Launches Department of Media and Mass Communication

Jammu University has launched a new department of Journalism and Media Sciences. The new department was inaugurated by the VC of Jammu University Professor Manoj Dhar who observed that it was a long-standing demand of the students and aspirants as they would have to go out to other areas to pursue the career of their choice.

Professor Dhar dedicated the newly formed department to the residents of Jammu. He further explained the long term plans and the vision he has with the department. He shared the academic and infrastructural plans with the departments. He also envisioned making it one of the best departments in the university.

He also stressed the importance and relevance of mass communication in today's time. The introduction of technology in the field of media has created huge changes. Professor Dhar also pointed out that the course is not going to be just a theoretical endeavour, instead, the course will entail regular interaction with the best journalists in the country. The course would also include regular workshops with journalists and people from the media, job experience through industrial training, providing technical know-how to the students, and visits to prestigious media institutional visits.

Plans are also being laid out for the establishment of the Centre for Media Studies, Community Radio Station, Language Lab according to the statement by Professor Dhar.

The plans are being materialised and the institutions are soon going to come to fruition. It is expected that once the institutions are being ready, it will enable the students to hone the necessary skills and be actual industry-ready.
