The Minister of Human Resource and Development, Prakash Javadekar did not make any statement on Rajiv Gandhi’s name before that of Indian Institute of Management, Shillong . He met the directors of IIMs on September 20, 2016.
After the meeting, he addressed the media where one of the media persons posed a question that if the central government intended to remove Rajiv Gandhi’s name from IIM-Shillong. He replied that he came across such a question for the first time and did not comment on it.

IIM-Shillong is the only institute among the 23 IIMs that has the prefix, Rajiv Gandhi. The name of the institute led to many problems, and most of the politicians did not support it.
The BJP State Youth Wing mentioned that the institute must be renamed as A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Indian Institute of Management, Shillong.

The minister also said that aadhar number is not mandatory to avail scholarships. However, he advised students to possess aadhar card. The government is enrolling aadhar free of cost, and the students can make use of the facility to the maximum. He clarified that aadhar is a unique identity card and not a citizenship card.
