Lakshya Sharma from Lucknow who secured AIR 10 in JEE Advanced 2017 examination revealed that he does not want to enroll in any IIT. He was the only student from Lucknow who made it to the list of top AIR 10. Stating the reasons, Sharma revealed that his parents are settled in Canada. He bagged 100% scholarship worth Rs. 2 crores to pursue Computer Science and Physics (dual engineering course) at the University of Pennsylvania. It is one of the top eight universities in the world.
Lakshya wants to study at the University of Pennsylvania. He mentioned that he would have an advantage of studying both Physics and Computer Science simultaneously through this dual degree course. Therefore, after completing the course, he can either take up Master’s in Physics or Computer Science, he added.

Lakshya also explained that the Physics degree from the University of Pennsylvania would open up opportunities for research. On the other hand, Computer Science will help him to go for higher studies in the field. Lakshya’s childhood dream was to take up B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering.
Stating reasons for his decision to pursue higher studies in the US, Lakshya mentioned that he wanted to achieve more in life rather than working in a company. He wanted to contribute something to the society and leave his mark in the world.
Lakshya is very much interested in doing research in Theoretical Physics. He mentioned that the scope for research is more in US universities. After writing several exams and tonnes of essays, he has made it to the University of Pennsylvania.

Lakshya took coaching at one of the institutes in Kota mentoring students for IIT-JEE examination. Studying at Kota was an advantage for Lakshya. It taught him handling stress and heavy course loads. He further expressed that this has prepared him to handle the burden of dual degree course much better.
Lakshya’s father is a Charted Accountant (CA) and mother is a post graduate in Zoology. His sister is pursuing medicine at the University of British Columbia.
Lakshya scored 800 marks in SAT examination. His TOFEL score was 115 out of 120. He will join the University of Pennsylvania in August 2017.
