In an order passed by the apex court of the country, it has stayed the counselling as well as admission process of the technical institutes of the country, i.e. Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other engineering colleges. The next hearing with regard to the matter will be held on Monday, 10th July.
Earlier, a petition had been filed in the Supreme Court in order to challenge the decision of the IITs to grant grace marks to the candidates who appeared for the JEE Advanced 2017 examination on 21st May 2017. The grace marks were awarded because of the misprint of questions which was a mistake on the part of the IITs. In response to that plea, a stay has been put on the admission and counselling process of IITs which is currently underway.

Not only that, the petitioner is also said to have asked the SC to direct the IITs to revise the merit list basis the improvements that are made after awarding grace marks to the students.
The court questioned IIT Madras - which was the conducting body of IIT-JEE this year - seeking a reply as to why grace marks were awarded to the candidates. The total extra marks awarded were 7. The candidates who did not even attempt those questions were awarded grace marks, which according to the petitioner is unfair.
