The trend of institute picking is unchanged this year. Even if the NIRF ranking for Engineering Colleges ranked Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Madras in a higher place than the Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Bombay , most JEE Advanced toppers are opting for IIT Bombay! In the counselling process of JoSAA 2019, 64 aspirants from 100 toppers have opted for IIT Bombay in the current admission session. For most of them, the second choice was IIT Delhi in which, 33 students opted for. The top-ranked IIT in NIFT Rankings saw only one student option for it among the 100 toppers.
Previous year also, only six students opted for IIT Madras from the top 100 list where 59 students opted for IIT Bombay and 30 chose IIT Delhi. Out of 500 students, the admission takers in IIT Bombay went up to 147 from 130 in the previous year. Similarly, IIT Delhi admission numbers went up to 142 from 103, whatsoever, there is just a slight rise in the numbers of IIT Madras this year. The previous year, the IIT Madras saw 50 admission takers and in 2019, the number of admissions in the IIT Madras is 53 this year within the 500 toppers list.

The data showed that in 2019, a total of 2,02,768 candidates filled the total of 2,24,89,623 choices in Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling for admissions into 107 institutes across India including IITs and NITs.
