Another big development in the procedure of JEE Mains exam, attendance at the exam centers will be taken through Aadhaar-based biometric attendance machines. The decision was made by the Joint Apex Board (JAB) for the better utility of Aadhaar cards and marking candidates’ attendance.

In a meeting held on Thursday, December 8, the board decided to implement this system so that the malpractices and impersonation can be stopped through unique identification system. According to sources, the expenditure of the system will be provided by CBSE with the help of the application fee received from the candidates.
In 2016, authorities had reported some cases of impersonation for the JEE Mains exam and this system will help in controlling such candidates.
States that are not yet under the Aadhaar networks such as Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya have been given relaxation and will not have to provide Aadhaar numbers in order to appear for the exam.
CBSE has also decided that the OMR sheets will be scanned at the examination centers immediately after the test conducted. Scanning of sheets will be done in the presence of officials and under the surveillance of CCTV cameras.

Prior to the commencement of the application process, CBSE had announced that Aadhaar cards issued by the UIDAI will be mandatory to fill the JEE Mains 2017 application form. The test will decide the candidates that will be shortlisted for JEE (Advanced) basis which admissions to various IITs will be done. JEE Advanced 2017 will be organized by IIT Madras on May 21.
