In a meeting held on Thursday, December 8, the board decided to implement this system so that the malpractices and impersonation can be stopped through unique identification system. According to sources, the expenditure of the system will be provided by CBSE with the help of the application fee received from the candidates.

In 2016, authorities had reported some cases of impersonation for the JEE Mains exam and this system will help in controlling such candidates.

States that are not yet under the Aadhaar networks such as Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya have been given relaxation and will not have to provide Aadhaar numbers in order to appear for the exam.

CBSE has also decided that the OMR sheets will be scanned at the examination centers immediately after the test conducted. Scanning of sheets will be done in the presence of officials and under the surveillance of CCTV cameras.
