JEE Main January 2023: Tips for Chemistry

Check here the important tips to score well in JEE Main chemistry paper in these last days before the exam:

  • List out your strong topics. Out of all the chapters, there are certain chapters that you might be well-versed in. These are the topics you must focus on.
  • Shortlist important topics. As per the previous year’s paper analysis, the most important topics in Chemistry with their weightage are given here:
    • Transition Elements and Coordinate Geometry – 3 questions
    • Periodic Table and Representative Elements – 3 questions
    • Thermodynamics and Gaseous State – 2 questions
    • Atomic Structure – 2 questions
    • Chemical Bonding – 2 questions
    • Chemical and Ionic Equilibrium – 2 questions
    • Solid-State and Surface Chemistry – 2 questions
    • Nuclear Chemistry and Environment – 2 questions
    • Rest of the Chapters – Approximately 0 to 1 question weightage each.
    • Click Here for detailed distribution.
  • These topics alone carry a weightage of 18 out of 25 questions, i.e., 72 marks. Revise these topics the most. However, if you have not prepared some of these topics, leave them be.
  • Instead, do those with less weightage but well prepared for you.
  • Revise theory first as chemistry is majorly a theoretical subject.
  • Revise all the important reactions and formulas, especially from the inorganic chemistry. Be sure to refer to old notes only. New notes at this point will confuse you unnecessarily.
  • Solve previous years’ papers. Candidates can download here with step-by-step solutions to the question papers of last year, both sessions: JEE Main 2022 and 2021 Question Paper PDF
  • During the exam, don’t spend more than a minute on a question you cannot figure out a solution strategy to. Instead, that time can be used for solution calculations of other questions.
