JEE Main 2020 New Dates Likely to Delay State-Level B.Tech Admissions and Entrance Exams

JEE Main 2020 new exam dates may delay the admission process for B.Tech in various states. On the other hand, state-level B.Tech entrance exams and counselling process in various states may witness a delay this year.

JEE Main New Dates Delay B.Tech Admissions and Entrance Exams

JEE Main 2020 is scheduled to take place from September 01 to 06, 2020. The national-level entrance exam has been postponed for the second time due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The admission process for IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs may take place in October, as JEE Advanced concludes on September 27, 2020. On the other hand, states that depend on JEE Main for B.Tech admissions may also have to wait till the second week of September. Some of the states that conduct centralized counselling for B.Tech admissions are Bihar , Rajasthan (REAP) and Haryana .

Will JEE Main New Dates Delay State-Level Engineering Entrance Exams?

The new exam dates of JEE Main may delay the state-level engineering entrance exams. Already, UPSEE , the exam for B.Tech admission in Uttar Pradesh has been postponed to September 20, 2020. On the other hand, the Telangana government too postponed TS EAMCET till further notice.

While other states are still uncertain about the entrance exam dates. With the number of cases increasing, conducting the entrance exams in July may not be possible in all the states. Therefore, students can expect a delay in the dates of state-level entrance exams.

There is also a chance where states may hold the entrance but delay the admission process.

How will JEE Main New Dates Delay State-Level B.Tech Admissions?

In many states, students appear for state-level and JEE Main entrance exams. Students aspiring for NIT admission in various states prefer appearing for state-level entrance exam as a backup option. If students are unable to make it to NITs through JEE Main, he/she will take admission through state-level entrance exam. Every year, many states conduct counselling for B.Tech admissions only after the conclusion of JoSAA counselling process .

This year, as the JoSAA counselling will take place in October, there is uncertainty on the state-level B.Tech admission dates .

If the states conduct the counselling process for B.Tech admission before JoSAA, some students will have to comprise and decide whether to wait for JoSAA counselling or take admission through state-level entrance exam.

Is it Better to Take B.Tech Provisional Admission in Deemed/ Private Universities?

Most of the private/ deemed universities in India have opened the admissions for B.Tech for the academic session 2020-21. These universities are even accepting JEE Main January 2020 score for admission. If getting admission in private/ deemed universities is one of your options other than admission through JEE Main/ state-level entrance exam, you can consider provisional admission. However, make sure that you will have to pay the admission fee while taking the provisional admission.
