JEE Main 2018 application process was concluded recently. Compared to the previous year, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) received a total number of 50,989 lesser number of applications. CBSE received a total of 11,48,000 applications for JEE Main 2018, a national-level engineering entrance exam .
According to the statistics of previous years, CBSE witnessed a 4% drop in the number of applications for JEE Main 2018. Maharashtra recorded a total number of 1.63 lakh applications this year.

An expert was of the opinion that the increasing level of difficulty in JEE Main is the major reason for the decline in the number of applications. On the other hand, many students are keen to join management and law courses apart from engineering, he added.
Students in various states also prefer to appear for the state level engineering entrance exams . These students prefer to join engineering colleges in their respective regions.

JEE Main 2018 offline exam (pen and paper-based) will take place on April 8, 2018, while the online (computer-based test) will be conducted on April 15 and April 16, 2018.
CBSE is yet to issue the official schedule for Class 12 and Class 10 board exams. There were speculations that CBSE would announce the date sheet for board exams in the first week of January. However, there wasn’t any official confirmation from the board last week regarding the schedule of board exams.
