Recently, the administration of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) faced allegations against the linking of fellowship with mess dues. Even though the varsity had not introduced any new clause in this regard, most of the students mistook the existing clause and criticised the varsity.
Responding to the allegations, the administration of JNU confirmed that the linking of scholarship with mess due has already been in existence over the years and new change have not been made or introduced to the existing clause. If the hostel students fail to pay the mess fees within the stipulated time, the amount will be deducted from the students’ scholarship.

Recently, a false message has been spread in social media by some students stating that a new scholarship/ fellowship form has been incorporated by varsity, i.e., linking mess fees due with scholarship/ fellowship.
Finance Officer of JNU clarified that students can continue using the existing form of scholarship/ fellowship until June 30, 2018. On the other hand, a new claim form for these will be implemented from July 01, 2018, onwards. The Finance Officer further confirmed that all the old forms had an undertaking for students to sign. The clause related to deduction of mess fee (in case of due) was included in the scholarship/ fellowship form, he added.
