Jawaharlal Nehru University and the European Union inaugurated the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence for European Union Studies at the university campus on 8th March 2019.
The centre of Excellence for European Studies in India is popularly known as CEEUSI. The centre of excellence at the university will provide a great platform for EU studies in India and South Asia.
Apart from Manipal Academy for Higher Education, JNU is the second centre of Excellence awarded EU funds in the country.
M Jagadesh Kumar, JNU Vice-Chancellor expressed his happiness over the establishment of the EU centre in the university. According to him, setting up the centre will provide students and researchers with a range of options to pursue research and undertake courses in European Studies. The students can pursue both short term and long term courses at CEEUSI.

Tomasz Kozlowski, Ambassador of the European Union to India said that they are delighted to support the Centre of Excellence at the university. He further said that EU-India relations are entering a new phase with the launch of the new European Union Strategy for India in November 2018.

The European Union New Strategy will focus on education and professional skills by starting a student-exchange programme, faculty exchange programmes and others. The new Centre of Excellence at JNU will provide additional opportunities to students and researchers to work on European Union studies in India.
