JNU to Conduct Online Entrance Tests for All its Courses

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will conduct online entrance exam for all its courses this year. A committe was up by the university for the same which had made recommendations to include multiple choice questions (MCQs) even for social science subjects.

NTA (National Testing Agency) will conduct online JNU entrance exam 2019. The JNUEE 2019 will be conducted from May 27 to 30, 2019. The online registration process for JNUEE 2019 begins from March 15, 2019. The JNU entrance examination would be conducted in 127 cities across India, which is a 2.5-fold increase from past years.

The varsity has decided to conduct the entrance examination in the online mode as the offline system is time-consuming and tedious. The members of the committee suggested that JNU should completely switch to the online mode of entrance examination . During a meeting on 28th May last year, it was decided that JNU will adopt an online mode in entrance exams for all the academic courses.

It was also decided that admission to courses such as M.Phil and Ph.D. will be on the basis of online examination results. However, the varsity will conduct a short written examination at the time of the interview for those courses that need to have a subjective analysis of the written skills of the candidates.

However, the committee is facing a lot of criticism from the students union (JNUSU) regarding this decision.

Some of the university Deans are also apprehensive about the MCQ format as it is unfit for few subjects like social science. According to them, it is essential to assess the analytical abilities of students in such subjects. Moreover, the recommendations have to be passed by statutory bodies as committees only look into matters and present reports.

Until last year, JNU conducted entrance examination in 54 cities across the country for admission to 169 programmes in offline mode.
