JNU is considering the option of conducting the exams online due to the ongoing coronavirus lockdown. The final decision will be taken after the recommendations from the faculty members.

JNU to Decide on Conducting Online Exams

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is exploring the option of conducting the exams online to complete the academic calendar on time according to a report by the administration. The report also stated that the university might cancel summer vacations.

A final decision in this regard will be taken after getting recommendations from the faculty members by April 16. The VC had earlier formed two committees to look into this matter - one was to overlook the pending courses and the other one to schedule the exams due to the ongoing coronavirus lockdown.

The university is likely to be shut during the current semester and exams have to be conducted in the online mode. Students who would not be able to appear for the exams online due to the lack of internet connectivity can submit their assignments with a grace period. And, the students who will be unable to use the internet facility due to the lockdown will be allowed to write the online exam after they return to the campus once the lockdown ends. This will help in making the exam pattern uniform as the online mode of exam will be followed for all students for the winter semester.

Hand-written copies of the assignments can be scanned and sent via email by the students who are not able to type their answers on the computer screens. Evaluation of all the exam papers should be completed as per the academic calendar. The dates for the submission of M.Phil and PhD thesis might be extended according to the UGC guidelines.

The report also mentioned that the university should cancel the summer vacation in 2020 and the Executive Council may be requested to approve the same. Also, the viva for qualified students in JNUEE (JNU entrance exams) for admission into M.Phil and PhD courses should be done through videoconferencing.
