The premier central university of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru University or JNU will soon launch a study on the research activities of Indian scriptures like Rigveda and the Upanishads. For that, the University will launch an endowment fund with the active help of Professor Madan Gopal Seth, who is a Non-Residential Indian.
Professor Madan Gopal promised to establish a scholarship under the name of “Sungum Sudhakar Scholarship” in the University. For that, he has offered corpus fund of Rs. 3 crore to the University to start a research programme on ancient Indian scriptures and their philosophy.

In a press release, the University stated that Professor Madan Gopal is an ardent supporter of rich Indian Philosophy and did his vast study on Vedic Literature. He is a strong believer of Vedas and Upanishads. He considers Vedic philosophy as the pillar of Indian wisdom.
The press release further said that the goal of this endowment is to help the young students of JNU so that they can study the eternal values of Vedas and Upanishads which can dispel the darkness of ignorance and help them towards enlightenment.
The endowment amount will be used to finance one of the three students who pursues Ph.D. in the university every year. But their study should be based on Indian Philosophy. The University will also promote an international student to do research on the same subject in JNU.

The Upanishads are a collection of ancient Sanskrit scriptures with eternal philosophical concepts of Hinduism. They are the basis of India spiritual ideas and were known as Sruti before they complied. They are also better knows as Vedanta.
