As IIT Guwahati releases the first six seat allotment lists for the Joint Seat Allocation Authority for the counselling process for admission to IITs, NITs, and IIITs, an inclination is observed towards IIT Bombay. Reports suggest that out of the 500 JEE Advanced Rank Holders, 431 of them have shown their first preference for IIT Bombay. IIT Bombay has been the first preference of the candidates over the past few years, even in the last year, out of the 100 JEE Advanced rank holders, 89 of them opted for IIT Bombay as their first preference. A similar trend has been noticed in JoSAA Round 1 Counselling 2023 as well, where the majority rank holders states IIT Bombay as their first preference, 36 of them states IIT Delhi, 21 have selected IIT Madras, 5 for IIT Kanpur, 3 for IIT Kharagpur, and 1 for IIT Guwahati.
Even after the introduction of several new-age technology programmes, at various IITs, NITs, and IIITs, the traditional engineering courses have seen maximum demands. Out of which, Computer Science Engineering tops the list with the maximum applications, followed by electronics and communication engineering. Although the number of eligible candidates is low, the number of applications for each course is marginally high, as candidates had the opportunity to select multiple courses.
