Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Handicapped University (JRHU) which has impressed the government of Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) will soon get Central University status. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar is planning to grant central varsity status to JRHU.
The university is being run by Manish Kumar who is just 28 years old. He motivates the disabled students with his unique teaching method. It is the only university in India where a visually impaired teacher stands in pride and delivers lectures to students who are physically and visually challenged. Kumar has been successful in imparting ‘can do’ attitude among the disabled students.

He explained that he makes use of a projector while teaching a particular concept. He makes use of audio mediums to connect with visually challenged students. Apart from Kumar, various teachers who are physically or visually disabled visit the university to teach students. Most of the students pursuing higher education in JRHU are from villages in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
According to the report given by one of the staff members, a total umber of 1,500 students are pursuing higher education in the varsity. The university offers 15 courses, and the students have the choice to choose the course as per their wish.

The courses offered by the varsity include B.Ed Social Work, Music, Fine Arts and other special training courses. Most of the students with hearing disabilities opt for courses in Computers and Fine Arts. On the other hand, visually disabled students opt for courses like Music. Finally, B.Ed is a commonly chosen course among all the students.
There are two hostels in the varsity one for boys and the other for girls. These students often help each other in learning. The varsity provides all the basic amenities to the students at no cost. The varsity will function in a more efficient way if it gets central varsity status.
A team of officials from University Grants Commission (UGC) visited the varsity for inspection and submitted the feedback to Mr. Prakash Javadekar. The minister revealed that UGC has given a positive report and JRHU will soon get central university status.
