Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) is the only educational institute in India to win the prestigious ‘ 18 th Energy Globe World Award 2017 ’. It is an important and well-accredited award in the field of environment. The award presentation ceremony took place on January 16, 2018, at Tehran, Iraq. Delegates from over 60 countries were present at the award ceremony where KISS was conferred with this prestigious award in the presence of esteemed delegates across the globe.
The green initiatives taken by KISS to reduce the ecological footprint for large-scale cooking have been widely appreciated - prime reason why KISS was able to bag the prestigious Energy Globe Award . The institute was conferred the award in ‘Fire’ category. Over 178 countries with 2,000 projects competed for this prestigious award under five categories including: -

- Air
- Water
- Fire
- Land

Under ‘Fire’ category, Spain, Thailand and India made it to the finals. After a tough evaluation by the jury members, KISS has been selected for this esteemed award under ‘Fire’ category.
The modernised system of preparing food for 27,000 students at KISS is outstanding. The institute prepares food through biogas plant, rainwater conservation system, solar heating system and steam-based cooking system. In all, KISS has been playing a predominant role in conserving the environment through its eco-friendly initiatives. Bureaucrats, policymakers and professionals across the globe have visited KISS and appreciated the eco-friendly initiatives.

Commenting on the achievement, Founder of KISS and KIIT, Professor Achyuta Samanta expressed that the award is not only a pride and honour for the institute but also to the nation. Protection of the environment is essential in the current scenario where global warming is slowly taking control over the environment.
Energy Global Award is conferred to the institutes that come up with best solutions for current energy and climatic changes. Over 170 countries compete for the award in five categories every year.
