The central government has given its nod for setting up Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Raichur , Karnataka. The premier institute is likely to be functional from the upcoming academic session. Union HRD Minister, Mr. Javadekar assured that the central government would make the necessary budget allocation for the construction of IIIT campus at Raichur. The fund allocation is likely to be made in the Budget 2018.

Meanwhile, the central government has asked the state government of Karnataka to provide alternative infrastructure to begin the academic session 2018-19. The state government will identify the land for setting up IIIT campus at Raichur. Until the completion of construction of the permanent campus, the institute will be functional through a temporary campus.
Javadekar explained that it was the long-standing demand of state government to set up an IIIT. Already, the central government established an IIT in Dharwad . IIIT Raichur will be the second premier institute sanction for Karnataka, he added.
IIIT Raichur will be set up under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The state government will have to allocate the land for the construction of the permanent campus.

The northern part of Karnataka will be highly beneficial after the establishment of IIIT Raichur, where the demand for quality education is high. This part of Karnataka lack science and engineering institutes and students are forced to travel long distances to access quality education.
If everything materialises as per plan, IIIT Raichur will start functioning from the upcoming academic session.
