Kasturba Gandhi Degree & PG College for Women, Secundrabad organised a two-day national seminar on ‘Advances in Bioprocess Engineering’ on November 23 & 24, 2016. BioZEEN-Bengaluru Biotech Labs Private Limited collaborated with the College to organise the seminar. TS Council for Science and Technology, Department of Biotechnology and TS Council for Higher Education sponsored the seminar.
Prof. S. Ramachandran, Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University, inaugurated the seminar. On this occasion, he motivated the students to develop innovative ideas and skills to enhance employability. Later, he released the proceedings of the seminar.

The seminar was attended by 200 delegates who include research scholars, scientists, faculty and students. Dr. Varalaskhmi, Director of Jain University, Dr. K. Jaganathan, Shanta Biotech and others presented a paper on the theme.
Dr. Varalaskhmi explained that bioprocess engineering deals with the design and development of equipment and improve the processes for manufacturing of products such as chemicals, polymers, papers, pharmaceuticals and others from biological materials and treatment of waste water. In simple terms, bioprocess engineering means the application or alteration of renewable materials to generate value-added products or commodities.

Dr. K. Jaganathan indicated that there is a wide difference between bioprocess engineers and other engineers. Bioprocess Engineer understands how every engineering field relates to living beings. Due to the advancement of biologically based technologies, bioprocess engineers can solve the problems easily. The demand for bioprocess engineers will increase in the coming years. For this purpose, large scale implementation of biotechnologies is necessary.
