Keeping pace with the digital age, Kerala University has recently launched a new platform through which the University will be offering various online open courses for the students.The courses that come under the Massive Online Open Courses (MOOC) platform provide flexibility of unlimited participation from students of the state and has open access through the internet.

The university will be offering, through MOOC, a series of short-term online courses. The first online MOOC course being offered by Kerala University will be based on the subject of Making Powerful Multi-Media Presentations.
The University has entrusted Professor Achuthsankar S Nair from the Department of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics with the task of being the instructor for these short term courses that are being offered by the University.
The first online course will equip the students with power point presentation skills. Additionally, they will receive instructions on how to sharpen their skills in this area. The course is of six-week duration. It will be offered free of cost. However, a prerequisite to that is the students must have the knowledge of the following areas:
- Microsoft Office
- PowerPoint
- LibreOffice-Impress presentations
Under the programme, there will be six lectures which will be accompanied by a series of multiple choice questions which need to be answered after each lecture. After the completion of the programme, the candidates will be assessed on the basis of the PPT given to them and on a 3 slide PPT on any topic chosen by the students.

Also, the students will be in touch with the course instructors and course facilitators online so that they can seek help in case they face any problem. The University is planning for more such courses. The registration process for the MOOC is right now underway. Instructor Achuthsankar S Nair said that already 30 students have signed up within one hour of the opening of the course.
