Eminent nuclear scientist Shivram Bhoje inaugurated a two-day exhibition 'I-Renew' at the
Kolhapur Institute of Technology's College of Engineering
on Saturday.
Bhoje, a Padma Shri award winner, said during his inaugural speech that every nation needs to be self-sufficient where energy demands are considered. "Developed nations need to bring in the use of alternative sources of energy considering the ever-increasing demand for the power and declining natural sources of power," he said, while mentioning that nuclear energy can a dependent and safe alternative for the future.
"At present, solar energy is the cleanest and most cheaply available resource that we all have and should use," he said.
Over 500 students from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa participated and presented their ideas on alternative sources of energy through their project models. According to college officials, as many as 100 projects are on display.
