G. Viswanathan, Vice-Chancellor of VIT University revealed that the number of universities would increase in the coming years. Today, US overtook Europe in terms of higher education and the reason is the autonomy and freedom given to educational institutions over there. There is a healthy competition between private and public institutions in the US, which resulted in the development of quality in education. Currently, there are 4,000 universities in the US and there is no Ministry of Education or University Grants Commission to regulate these universities there.
