Kozhikode Schools Holiday 2 August 2024: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in eight districts, including Kozhikode in Kerala, due to heavy rainfall. The continuous downpour has led to flooding and disruption in Kozhikode, prompting various schools and educational institutions to declare a holiday for August 1, 2024. The weather forecast indicates that the district will experience heavy winds on August 2, 2024, encouraging authorities to announce a holiday for the entire district as a safety precaution. While the decision for school closures awaits official confirmation, IMD has issued ‘ Yellow Alert ’ in many areas of Kozhikode district due to continuous heavy rains for the last three days.

Students are strongly advised to take note of the following critical information. District collectors have officially announced that the upcoming holiday will not apply to residential schools, and consequently, the previously scheduled examinations will proceed as planned. However, it is important to note that the holiday will be observed for Anganwadis. Due to the heavy rains, North Kerala has been facing severe challenges and hardships, particularly with the rising river levels. The districts have been hit by heavy rains, causing devastating landslides. Local reports have tragically confirmed that at least 8 people have lost their lives in these landslides, and there are fears that around 100 individuals may be trapped.

In response to this crisis, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced on Tuesday that all government agencies have united in the search and rescue operations to address the extensive landslides. Additionally, the National Health Mission's Health Department has established a dedicated control room to handle the situation caused by the rains and landslides in the Wayanad district.
