Madras High Court Allows Law Graduates in 2016 to Apply for Civil Judge in Tamil Nadu

The Madras High Court finally allows law graduates passed in 2016 from recognised universities to apply for Civil Judge in Tamil Nadu. The graduates who accepted their provisional degree certificates before 9th September 2019 are also allowed to apply for the post. The Madras High Court has directed TNPSC (The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission) to open an online window catering to the same purpose.

After these fresh law graduates filed a petition demanding permission for application, a bench of justice C Saravanan and Justice Vineet Kothari, Acting Chief passed an interim order stating the same. The TNPSC then issued a notification for the recruitment of Civil Judge on 9th September 2019.

The issue arose when these graduate lawyers were not able to fill the application forms despite the fact that they fulfilled all eligibility criteria. Since their provisional certificates were awarded prior to 9th September this year, their applications were not being accepted online.

Finally, the TNPSC released the notification stating that law graduates who were issued their law degrees within a time period of three years prior to the day of notification issuance can now apply for the post. Talking about the petition filed by the graduates, the petitioners’ counsel said that the inhibition of application for the post was a violation of Article 14 of the Indian constitution.
