One of the oldest colleges in Kolkata, Loreto College , has added a new floor to its heritage building, solely dedicated for Masters degree courses from this month onwards. The new wing is named as ‘Mary Ward-Lady Aruna Paul’. The new wing consists of the postgraduate department and a library. The classes for first year M.A. English will commence at the new wing from this month. The course is affiliated to the University of Calcutta.

Lord Paul, University Grants Commission (UGC) and the State Government have made the contributions for the construction of the new wing. The College Principal, Christine Coutinho said that the new wing was constructed at the cost of Rs. 3.50 crores and the construction work took two years.
Lord Swaraj Paul, a London-based NRI has made a vital contribution to the construction of new wing. The college is also planning to add another wing to the fourth floor of the U-shaped building. The Paul family has assured to make donations for the construction of another wing where M.A. Psychology will be introduced.
Currently, there are 25 seats in M.A. English out of which two seats are reserved for underprivileged and minority students.
The Loreto College was established in the year 1912.
