The University of Lucknow will give 5% relaxation (from 50% to 45%) in marks to candidates belonging to SC/STOBC/OBC-NCL/PH in LU Ph.D. entrance exam . The decision was made at the academic council meeting on January 14, 2019. This change regarding the entrance test qualifying marks was made following the notification by the UGC on the minimum standards and procedure for awarding Ph.D. degrees.
Lucknow University has become the first state university to adopt this Gazette notification. Another important outcome of the meeting was the decision that the seats which remain unfilled after admission from SC/ST/OBC/Differently-abled/Non-creamy layer categories will be transferred for admission to the next year.

Lucknow University (LU) offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and doctoral courses in management, arts, science, commerce, law, engineering, fine arts, and education. Candidates can fill the admission form online by going to the official website. Admissions to all the UG and PG courses is on the basis of the entrance exam conducted by the university and it is followed by the counselling process.

For the research programs such as Ph.D., candidates can apply either through a qualifying entrance test or through direct interview. Candidates have to appear for the interview process, and they will be selected on the basis of their performance in the personal interview round. Candidates are assessed on the basis of their research proposal in 400-600 words in the area of research interest of the candidate, a power point presentation of the research proposal and interview.
