Lucknow University Topper Returns his Medals

Gyandendra Tripathi,a MA Hindi topper of Lucknow University who was refused admission in PhD has decided to return his medals.

Gyanendra had submitted an application in which he had requested the Vice-Chancellor to accept his medals won for academic excellence.

In his letter, Gyanendra has stated that the university dismissed his complaint and refused to reveal his score and that “getting justice was far from reality”. “A medal is a reward for academic excellence. It is a paradox that the university first awards me two gold medals and then finds me ineligible for research on the basis of my presentation,” said Gyanendra.

Gyanendra has won two gold medals for his performance in the 2014 convocation, one medal for best student in his department and another for securing the highest marks (71%) in his MA (Hindi) course. A Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) scholar, Gyanendra qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) by securing 81.4% marks.Tripathi had demanded that the marks should be shown for the PhD interview.
