In a recent announcement made by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Maharashtra, it has made clear that MHT-CET exam pattern and weightage and MHT-CET syllabus will accommodate few changes for the MHT-CET 2018 exam. The Government of Maharashtra is looking forward to raising MHT-CET up to JEE levels from 2018-19. Currently, admissions to all engineering and pharmacy courses offered by the state colleges are done on the basis of MHT-CET.
According to a Government Resolution (GR), the regulatory body is planning to bring the level of the exam, exam pattern and quality at par with the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) . The GR released by the state is likely to be applicable from 2018. MHT-CET 2017 will be conducted on the same lines as previous years, informed Dayanand Meshram, Joint Director of DTE Maharashtra.
Details of the changes introduced by DTE has been listed and elaborated below. Please go through the changes thoroughly so that MHT-CET 2018 preparation can be done accordingly.
Changes in MHT-CET 2018 Syllabus and Weightage:
- 80% weightage will be given to questions on Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics that will be based on class 12 syllabus and curriculum.
- 20% weightage will be given to questions on the same subjects that will be based on class 11 syllabus and curriculum. DTE has released the fresh class 11 syllabus for MHT-CET 2018.
Changes in MHT-CET 2018 Exam Pattern:
- Each section or subject of MHT-CET 2018 will have the same number of questions (50 each). DTE has not made clear that no segregations of class 11 and class 12 syllabus based questions will be done.
- MHT-CET 2018 questions will be application-based.
- Out of the 50 questions in each MHT-CET 2018 paper, 10 will be from class 11 syllabus while the rest 40 will be from class 12 curriculum.
The proposal regarding raising the level of MHT-CET up to JEE levels was sent to the government months ago. With a better quality of exam, the government aims to attract better quality applicants for engineering programmes across institutes in the state.
As of now, the inclusion of class XI syllabus in MHT-CET 2018 is uncertain as the students who will appear for the exam next year have already been promoted to class XII and they have limited time frame to prepare for the same.

The change in pattern and quality of the exam had been delayed to 2018 so that the students have time to get accustomed to the changes. It will also help in getting better results as the students will have enough time to be well prepared, said Meshram.
