Maharashtra NEET UG Counselling: For admissions this year, the Fee Regulating Authority (FRA) of Maharashtra has announced a cut in the annual MBBS tuition fees at private medical colleges in the state, reported TOI. Over 40% of the tuition fees for MBBS programmes have been slashed by FRA, thus reducing the tuition fees from INR 8.4 lakh to INR 4.8 lakh. This decision has been taken over a series of meetings and the final fee slash arrived by referring to the institute’s previous year’s expenditure for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The revised fee structure for the colleges will soon be conveyed by the CET Cell. While most of the private colleges in the state requested a regular increase in the annual fees, FRA has only permitted a considerable rise within a range of INR 50k to 1.5 lakh. For one college, the fee was even decreased. Six colleges in the state have decided to not raise their tuition fee this year; the list includes: 1. MIMER Talegaon, 2. MIMSR Latur, 3. Ashwini Medical College, Solapur, 4. SMBT College, Nashik, 5. Walawalkar College, Chiplun, and 6. JIlU’s IMSR, Jalna

The fee cut decision can be challenged by the institutes with the support of substantial documentation. The chairman of FRA and a retired justice of Mumbai High Court, Vijay Lakhichand Achliya, conveyed that the fee raise was ‘modest’ considering the fee paid by NRI students.
Earlier this year in February, the National Medical Commission (NMC) released a memorandum, to be implemented from AY 2022-23 onwards, for private and deemed medical institutes to reserve 50% of their seats at the same fees as that of the government institutions for a particular course.
CET Cell, the conducting authority of NEET UG counselling, has launched the counselling portal for NEET UG on October 10 and the registrations for the same are expected to begin soon. Maharashtra NEET counselling 2022 portal can be accessed online at cetcell.net.in/NEET-UG-2022/.
