Management Lessons through Panchatantra Stories at IIM Ahmedabad

Professor N. Ravichandran, faculty of Production and Quantitative Methods at IIM Ahmedabad, organised a course on Panchatantra which included five 75-minute sessions. Over 25 students across Post Graduate Programme for Executives (PGPX) and Post Graduate Programme (PGP) courses at IIM-A attended the Panchatantra course in the last two weeks.

The course in Panchatantra was organised outside the regular curriculum and was initiated on popular demand by students. It not only generated enthusiasm among the students but also provided them a wide scope for interaction. It was a big hit among candidates and was successful in achievings its objectives.

Sharing his experience, P.V Aditya (second-year PGP student) explained that Professor N. Ravichandran referred to stories from Panchatantra while teaching Strategy in Capability, Competence and Competitive Strategy (CCCS) course. An active interaction with the professor was the major highlight of the course. It focused on Management Lessons that one can learn from the understanding and interpretation of Conflict of Panchatantra, he said.

While elaborating on the initiative taken up by him, Professor N. Ravichandran said that Panchatantra offers an ideal vantage point to have a detailed understanding of conflicts involving consciousness, philosophies or individuals. Stories in Panchatantra can be utilised to provide necessary clues to resolve all kinds of conflicts.

Adding further, Professor N. Ravichandran said that more and more students are now eyeing an opportunity to attend the course. Following such an overwhelming response, he is planning to offer an enlarged and improved version of the course to a larger section of the audience in November 2017.
