Mangalore University and IBM Collaborate to Start Courses in IoT, Data Analytics and Cyber Security

A partnership between Mangalore University and IBM will now allow students to gain skill-based training in different digital areas. A centre of excellence has been set up to offer students with a certificate and diploma courses in the field of Data Analytics, Cyber Security and IoT.

IBM and Mangalore University Partnership

With the increase in the demand for skilled and qualified professionals in different disciplines, Mangalore University (MU) in partnership with IBM will be taking steps to equip students with the necessary skills required in today’s world. MU along with IBM has decided that they will be providing the students with certificate and diploma courses in Cyber Security , Internet of Things (IoT) and Data Analytics .

Mangalore University and IBM have established a Centre of Excellence at the campus itself. The major objective of the Centre of excellence is to ensure that they will be able to improve their career prospects. The Centre of Excellence will be situated at the Mangalagothri Campus at Konje. Sources state that teachers along with the students will be offered training from IBM experts

The Chief Digital Officer of IBM India, Ajay Mittal, while talking to the media, stated that the students from other colleges in the city will be allowed to register for the courses. He stated that the partnership has been formed to ensure that the career prospectives of the students along with the skills gained by them are at par with the requirements of the industry.

Talking about the course on offer, Ajay Mittal that the students will be asked to choose between either a certificate or a diploma course. He further added that the course that will be chosen, they will be tailored specifically to the needs of the industry at the time. Being certificate and Diploma courses, the students will be pursuing their course for a short period of time. He mentioned the importance of learning skills, stating that the people with basic and sound knowledge of different sectors lay incompetent due to the changing challenges and requirements in the industry. He further added that while challenges and requirements of the industry are changing, the supply of skilled and qualified professionals in other areas are lacking as well. Through the course, Mittal stated that they will be focusing on these issues with Mangalore University.

The Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, PS Padapadithaya stated that the lack of skills training in the graduates nowadays is prominent. However, with the help of the course and training from IBM experts, the students will be able to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to tackle the different challenges that they will face in the industry. He further added that the varsity administration was contemplating the introduction of a postgraduate programme in Data Analytics and Cyber Security. Furthermore, they have been devising a plan to help the students receive hands-on experience by working as interns.

Educational Institutions have been focusing on improving the employability of the students through different methods. However, the best possible solution that a student will receive is skill-based training in their respective disciplines. Such short-term courses will help the students in developing their skills in areas that interest them and further adding to their career prospective.
