Keeping up pace with the changing technologies, Manipal University has launched Virtual Classroom at Manipal Institute of Technology’s Sir M.V. Seminar Hall. The motive behind this was to make technology more effective in education.
This move will provide economical access to students hailing from the remote areas, who will be able to attend classes and also interact with teachers and faculties via a two-way audio and video interaction in real time. The virtual classroom is in line with the government's move on the digital education initiative.

Dr. Ranjan Pai, CEO & MD, MEMG Bengaluru launched the online classroom at Sir MV Seminar Hall of Manipal Institute of Technology’s on February 20, 2017. In his speech, he urged everyone to make the best use of the technology and enrich their learning.
Some of the benefits of the virtual classroom:
- Connects students from remote and rural areas
- Interact with other participants
- Engage with work groups
- It is low-cost classroom
- It saves time and energy of going to attend classes

Assistant Director, Information Technology of the University, Sathish Kamath, who coordinated the launch said that content can be accessed from any place at any time by students. Even someone missed the class can later on access it and understood the lecture.
