Medical Council of India (MCI) has given clearance to three medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh to start MBBS courses from the academic year 2016-17.
Three institutes have received the MCI approval with an intake of 150 seats each to start the course.All these three medical colleges come under the jurisdiction of NTR University of Health Sciences at Vijayawada. They are -
- RVS Institute of Medical Sciences, Chittoor,
- Nimra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ibrahimpatnam, Vijayawada
- Gayathri Vidya Parishad Institute of Medical Care and Health Technology Visakhapatnam

At Present there are 3,000 MBBS seats available in the government and private medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh under NTRUHS. Now there will be an addition of another 450 seats with the permission given to the three new colleges,” informed Vice Chancellor of NTRUHS. The permission came after the MCI was satisfied with the facilities available at the colleges. MCI has also told the colleges to comply with norms within three months and provide Rs.2 crore as bank guarantee.

MCI would send inspection team within three months but before that, these conditions should be met. If a college fails to comply with the MCI norms, it will not get MCI recognition for the next two years.
