Gujarat state government has doubled the fees for management seats in medical colleges which almost account for 25% of the total seats. The state government has made a decision to double the fees, particularly in the self-financing colleges.
As per the new policy, say if the fees for a regular seat is Rs. 5.24 lakh annually, the management quota will be for Rs. 13.91 lakh. The officials of the Gujarat state informed that the fees of the management seats ranged between Rs. 8.25 lakh - Rs. 13.91 lakh annually in the year 2017.18. However, for the 2018-19 academic year, it will be between Rs. 13.5 lakh to Rs. 16 lakh followed by Rs.14.82 lakh to Rs.18.4 lakh for the 2020-21 academic year.

The committee is yet to release the fee structure for colleges under the Gujarat Medical Education Research Society (GMERS) . The fees for colleges located in Ahmedabad, Sola, Patan, Gori, Himmatnagar, and Valsad is likely to remain the same. The fees for Gujarat Cancer Society Medical College Hospital and Research Centre has been increased by almost 12%.

Among the dental colleges of the state, the highest fee hike was witnessed by 43% for the AMC Dental Education Trust . Earlier the fees for the college was Rs 2.79 lakh annually and now it has been increased to Rs. 4.25 lakh. Many dental colleges have decided to not increase the fees as many dental seats are still lying vacant.
