Gurdaspur’s Riya has scored 98% marks in her Class 12 exams conducted by Punjab School Education Board (PSEB). The result of the PSEB board was announced on May 14, 2017, and Riya secured the third position in the state board exam result.
Riya is a student of Tagore Centenary Public Senior Secondary School, Gurdaspur. She gives the credit of her success to her dedication and her parent’s support. Daughter of Rajesh Kumar, Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO ), Riya the aspires to become an IAS Officer.
Close to 2.8 lakh students appeared for the PSEB class 12 exams in 2017. All the top 3 positions in the state board result were secured by girls. Once again, Girls have outshined boys in the PSEB results.

Riya is a student of the non-medical stream and secured a total of 441 marks out of 450. Ravinder Sharma, Chairman of the school, talked about Riya and said that she was one of the most disciplined students of the school and was an all-round performer.

Talking about her success, Riya said that all girls can achieve their dreams if they get the right motivation and support. She also said that girls have the potential to outshine boys in every field if they work hard.
Riya is currently taking confidence building and English classes. She wishes to pursue B.Sc. Mathematics and is also prepared to move out of Gurdaspur if she gets a good college.

In 2016, the pass percentage of class 12 PSEB exams was 76.77% and the number of students who appeared for the exam was 3,18,453. The performance of girls was recorded to be better than boys in 2016. The pass percentage of girls was 84.03%, whereas, that of boys was 71.12%.
