The Union Ministry of Human Resource and Development signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Commissioner Secretary of State Higher Education Department for the establishment of India Institute of Management at Jammu. The MoU has been signed in the presence of Minister of Education, Naeem Akthar and Minister of State Education, Ms. Priya Sethi.

Naeem Akhtar said that the MoU is a landmark decision that will enable tp produce world class management professionals from the state. He mentioned that the MHRD is working simultaneously to establish an offsite campus of IIM Jammu in Srinagar to facilitate the students of Kashmir too.
Priya Sethi said that to make students qualify for the admissions at IIM Jammu, creating awareness programmes and coaching classes are necessary. IIM Lucknow will act as a mentor for IIM Jammu.

The proposal for the establishment of IIM Jammu was made in the year 2015. The MHRD directed the state government to allocate 200 acres of land and suitable location. Out of the proposed sites, village Raika or Nagrota will be preferable for the construction of the Institute.
The Higher Education Department has requested the Registrar of the University of Jammu to vacate the sheds near the entrance gate of University and hand over them to IIM Jammu. The proposal has also been made to vacate the Administrative Block of Government Engineering College. IIM Lucknow will construct classrooms, mess, hostel facilities and so forth at these places.
