JRF SRF Fellowship Hike 2023: The Ministry of Education has revised the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Senior Research Fellow (SRF) stipend giving a major relief to Ph.D. students and scholars. The monthly stipend has increased with effect from January 1, 2023. The decision will foster innovation and research excellence and will help in a significant boost to the research and development of the ecosystem and facilitate researchers in Higher-educational institutions (HEIs). As per MoE, an additional expenditure of Rs.725.00 crore will be incurred by the Government of India.

As per the above figure, DST has hiked the JRF stipend by 19% and for SRF by 20%. Despite the hike, several Ph.D. students and scholars are not satisfied with it and demand a least 60% increase in stipend at JRF, SRF, and all three levels of RAs. Some students also took to Twitter to express their disappointment with the hike percentage and stated that is not justified considering the efforts and dedication put in by scholars in R&D. They feel that stipends are below par.
