As many as 225 professors of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) have gone on a month-long vacation. A month-long vacation period is an annual feature in the KGMU where doctors of various departments take a break from their work.
Being an educational institute, KGMU gives professors a month’s vacation in summers. The KGMU administration, however, claimed it to be an annual affair in which the strength of professors dips. In order to deal with the crisis of doctors, an arrangement has been made under which vacations are being allowed to doctors in an alternate manner, disclosed a senior official of KGMU.
As per information, there are around 450 professors working in the 60 departments of the medical university. In May, as many as 225 professors will go on summer vacations. During the vacation period, numerous problems surface. However, KGMU authorities played down the issue claiming that professors in the medical varsity followed a common procedure that included mentioning the case history of the patient.
They said that most professors had moved to evidence-based medicine, which was highly case-specific for a patient. Meanwhile, another batch of professors will go on vacation in the second week of June for a period of one month.
King George's Medical University , for a while known as Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University, is a medical school located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. It came into being after the upgrade of King George's Medical College (established in 1911) into a university by an act passed by Government of Uttar Pradesh on 16 September 2002.
