President Ram Nath Kovind was the was the chief guest for the first convocation ceremony of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College located in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. He delivered a speech and talked about the requirement of good doctors and medical colleges for providing effective health care services.
He further talked about the recently launched Indian Medical Council Amendment Ordinance, 2018. According to him, this will encourage the establishment of new medical colleges, improve the quality of medical colleges and medical education. It will also help in the expansion and modernisation of medical institutions and healthcare education.

During the convocation ceremony, President Kovind awarded eleven gold medals to the meritorious students of the institute. Acharya Dev, Governor, Himachal Pradesh also graced the event with his presence. He congratulated the students and said that it is good to see that seven out of the eight recipients of the gold medal were girls. This is a big achievement for the state and is proof that the state is headed in the right direction in terms of medical education. He further added that doctors should motivate the youth to live a stress-free life and adopt a simple lifestyle.

Jai Ram Thakur, Chief Minister of the State said the state government is working towards strengthening the healthcare and medical institutions so that people get quality medical and health services.
