Prakash Javadekar, HRD Minister pointed that the number of students registered for Ph.D. under the professors of Jawaharlal Nehru University is 20-25 instead of 8 as prescribed by the University Grants Commission. Giving response to the various questions asked in Rajya Sabha regarding the status of research particularly Ph.D. in the country, Javadekar indicated that JNU has more research scholars than mandated by UGC.

He expressed his surprise that around 20-25 students are being guided by a professor in JNU which cannot be seen in any other country.
