MP: Technical Glitch Delays Medical Counselling for 7 Hours

The second round of medical counselling for the admission to MBBS/BDS courses delayed for 7 hours due to a technical glitch at Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal on October 4, 2016. The counselling was scheduled to commence at 8.00 AM, but it started at 3.00 PM due to technical problems.

The students criticised the government for irregularities in medical admissions. Some of the students pointed out the Vypam scam which led to massive irregularities and corruption in medical education. One of the students mentioned that the government is intentionally delaying the medical seat allotment just to admit non-domicile students to private medical colleges.

GS Patel, Director of Medical Examination, said that the government is strictly following the orders of Supreme Court regarding NEET based admissions. However, students did not agree with the statement given by GS Patel. One of the students said that if the government would have followed SC’s orders before September 30, 2016, most of the students of MP would have benefitted as apex court specifically ordered status quo.

The apex court ordered the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) to complete the admission process by October 7, 2016. The court also ordered to allow non-domicile students for admissions. However, the students criticised the order given by SC for allowing students from other states to be a part of the admission process.
