With the aim of developing Education Technology as a subject to a mainstream level, the Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Bombay has introduced the subject at the masters level. It will invite applications to start the course from 2019 fall session of M.Tech.
Education Technology is a field that is very versatile and interdisciplinary in its field of work. Working with different technologies to develop the way of delivering education is an attractive yet very contextual way keeping the need of the current times in mind. The Ph.D. degree in Education Technology field popularly known as ‘ET’ was started around 10 years ago in the institute.
According to some initial statements made on this topic from IIT Bombay, the students from diverse backgrounds will be trained to improve learning using technology.
IIT Bombay is optimistic that it will help enhance learning in ET interface and develop pedagogy; analysis, effective implementation design and evaluation of learning environments; research methodologies; instructional design; translating research into practice and collaborative working on complex interdisciplinary projects.
IIT Bombay is one of the few institutes in India that has interface and exposure to Education Technology. Head of the mentioned departments, Sridhar Iyer has expressed that, with a strong interdisciplinary focus, the respective department aims to contribute towards developing research-based innovative solutions to improve students’ learning and engagement.

The two-year programme will be conducted by studying new trends of technology in the education sector. Research methods and statistics will also be one of the prime areas of the course. The course in IIT Bombay will conduct practical and projects for practical understanding of the subject through research, innovation and implementation. The summer project will be 8 weeks long.
