The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences recently held its 19th Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday 21st January 2020. Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari had been called upon to be the chief guest at the MUHS Convocation Ceremony 2020.
The Governor took the opportunity to stress upon the need for interdisciplinary knowledge between the different medical fields. During his speech, he spoke about the importance of value-based education, in order for medical graduates to contribute much more to society.
Moreover, the Governor also stressed the importance of establishing more private medical universities and colleges , so as to enable MUHS in focusing on quality improvement. MUHS presently has 394 affiliated colleges that offer medical education in all fields, including Homeopathy , Allopathy and others .
Through his speech, Governor Koshiyari emphasized on the looking back at India’s medical history, with the first few physicians like Charak, Dhanvantari and Sushrut, who contributed to the Ayurvedic medical processes. He stated that the “ancient physicians, known as vaidyas,” could read a patient’s anatomy based on their reading of the nerve.
Further highlighting the importance of contributing to society, Governor Koshiyari also stated that doctors should boost Pradhan Mantri Jan-Aushadhi Yojna. Along with Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, Amit Deshmukh, the Medical Education Minister also praised the efforts of MUHS of being called one of the top medical universities in India.
Deshmukh, who also holds the position of MUHS Pro-Vice-Chancellor, urged the students to ensure that they are able to keep the varsity as one of the best medical universities in the nation, but also strive towards becoming one of the best medical institutions, globally.

Responding to the request forwarded by Medical Education Minister, MUHS Vice-Chancellor, specified the efforts that have been taken to direct the varsity towards global competition. He stated that efforts are being made to make MUHS as an international education hub, in order to provide a platform for various academic collaborations like faculty, exchange and mutual interaction programmes are held.

MUHS has been working towards becoming one of the institutions where high-quality doctors are produced, while also ensuring that the institution competes globally as a top medical education institution. Some of the efforts include the provision of a cashless and online transaction in all of its affiliated colleges along with accepting research thesis online.
