Mumbai University (MU) Launches Course on SWAYAM Portal

Mumbai University (MU) has launched its first Massive Online and Open Course (MOOC) in ‘Communication Technology in Education’. It is a certificate course, and it will be offered by MU on the central government’s SWAYAM portal for open learning. The certificate course will have four credits, and it focuses on the new technology used in the field of education.

The Certificate course in Communication Technology in Education was successfully launched on November 13, 2017. The four-credit course must be completed in 45 hours within 15 weeks. The course is open to teachers, graduates and postgraduates. The course will introduce the students to contemporary trends and concepts in the field of teaching and education. The certificate course will lay a special emphasis on integrating technology in teaching methods.

Coordinator of the course, Mr. Dhaneshwar Harichandan revealed that evaluation material, e-texts and videos designed by him would be available at free of cost on the SWAYAM portal of HRD Ministry. So far, the course registered over 3,200 applicants, and the registrations are still open.

There is no specific deadline for enrolling in the course, and more candidates are expected to register in the coming days. After the successful completion of the course, certificates will be issued to the candidates. The certificates will be awarded by the University of Mumbai and approved by HRD Ministry and UGC.

Mumbai University’s IDOL (Institute of Distance and Open Learning) got few takers in the year 2017 as compared to 2016. The delay in announcing the results had a negative impact on IDOL admissions.
