The University of Mumbai has deposited more than 900,000 degrees with the National Academic Depository (NAD). These degrees are now available online. Right to Information-RTI Activist, Anil Galgali informed that degrees of MU, which were awarded by the varsity from the year 2014-2018, have been uploaded on NAD. He added that this initiative would help in preventing fake degree cases and will also help in preventing the issue of fraudulent educational certificates. The move will promote transparency in the entire education system, he explained.
The National Academic Depository has uploaded over 9,00,000 degrees on the NAD. The online degrees of Mumbai University are from Arts, Science, Management, Commerce, Technology, and other backgrounds. The entire process of uploading the degrees on NAD started in February 2018.

According to the records, the maximum number of MU degrees were awarded in the academic year 2014. The number was as high as 1,93,388 degrees. However, the lowest number of degrees were awarded in the 2018 academic year. Out of the total degrees awarded, Commerce stream has the highest share with 3,98,650 degrees, followed by Arts stream on the second number. The Technology degrees were around 129,603 degrees followed by Science, Management, and Law.

This is one of the greatest initiatives of the government as it will keep a check on the issue of fake educational degrees and certificates. It will also save time and the lengthy process of verification that both the students and admission department have to go through.
