Mumbai University received over 40,000 applications in IDOL -The Insititute of Distance and Open Learning). On 13th August, the Kalina Campus of the University witnessed long queues of applicants registering themselves to the various courses offered by Mumbai University. The Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) of Mumbai University has received 40,012 candidates out of which, 14,011 have successfully completed their application process with the completion of fee payment whereas, 22,235 applicants are yet to pay the fee.
IDOL of MU got its much-awaited approval from the University Grant Commission (UGC) recently, which is valid till 2019-20. Ever since the commencement of application procedure last month, IDOL has been seeing this spike in the admissions. Comparing this year’s numbers with the last year’s, the Public Relations Officer of IDOL, Vinod Malale said that last year the University received over 67,000 registrations and this year, the University expects to surpass these numbers. Because of the rush at the Kalina Campus, MU had to open more counters, he further added.

During this year’s registrations, the long serpentine queues were not the only inspiring thing the University witnessed. On Tuesday, two friends, Ramprasad Iyer, 65 and Sunil Warankar, 50 came for the registration showing that it is never too late to learn and that you are never old for pursuing education. They enrolled in the MA in English Literature programme offered by IDOL. these two friends who are passionate about Music said that they had always wanted to study Literature and are very excited and look forward to studying it.

Although the online registration process of the University went smoothly, applicants still needed some clarities regarding further processes. Their queries were resolved on Tuesday and the students also got their study material. The University still continues to get more enrollments.
