The academic council of the University of Mumbai (MU) has passed a resolution that the next semester of the university will start from 18 June 2018, which is almost a week later than the usual schedule.
Few of the summer semester exams were rescheduled in June and the university had to release the result for 250 courses which led to the delay in next year’s academic calendar.
Mohammed Tahir, Professor from Akbar Peerbhoy College of Commerce and Economics affiliated to Mumbai University announced that the next academic term of the university will start from 18th June and continue till 5 November. The new academic session of MU usually starts by 12 June but the delay in the evaluation of answer sheets was eating into the vacation of the teachers.

MU teachers are entitled to a five-week vacation , but due to the delay in exams, they were not getting the same. He also said that the admission process will start right after the assessment which will not provide the teachers with any break. Therefore, they decided to speak to the academic council and it was decided that the new session will start a week late. Other teachers of the university are of the view that a week’s delay in the session will lead to a lot of chaos in the coming time.

Even the Vice-Chancellor of the Mumbai University faced a lot of opposition regarding five- months delay in the semester results and his decision to introduce to onscreen -assessment.
